The Sharon Academy

TSA Student Profile

Our Students:
TSA’s current student body consists of 160, 7-12 graders that commute up to 60 miles daily in order to attend this unique academy. As a State-Approved, Independent School, we base our tuition on the state average, meaning that a student who comes from a town without a middle or high school is funded by their town money and no additional tuition cost is incurred by the family. As a result of this low tuition, 75% of our students are publicly funded and 23% will be first-generation college students. We cannot generalize our students in statistics though; instead, here are some highlights about our students and school that make this community truly unique.

Our Community:
What sets TSA apart from most schools is our unique student-focused, non-hierarchal environment where students are empowered on a daily basis through their involvement in the decision making process at our school. Here is how:

  • Every week, students and faculty participate in “Annucios”, a public gathering that provides an open forum for all students and staff to introduce topics and opportunities to the community.
  • We also have monthly “All School Meetings”where a rotation of three students guide their classmates through “announcements” and “appreciations” for fellow students/staff. The students then lead discussions on “issues” that any student can raise. In the past, these issues have ranged from: “how can TSA speak out about global warming” to “how to ensure our school remains a safe”.
Student Leadership:
At TSA we believe that all students have the ability to make a difference in the world around them. That is why part of our mission is to "awaken students to their immense potential and the difference they can make in the world." How do we do that? One way is to empower our students to take leadership roles and find their voice in our community.
