Student Services: Connections
TSA students attend a weekly Connections class
that focuses on social/emotional learning. Connections offers a relaxed setting
geared to students' social/emotional growth. Through dialogue and sometimes
through creative mediums that include writing, drama, and art, positive
communication and expression are practiced. In this way, students learn skills
that help them navigate adolescence through increased self-awareness and
expression. Students explore adolescent issues including self-awareness,
decision-making, managing feelings, handling stress, empathy, communication,
self-disclosure, insight (self-others), self-acceptance, personal
responsibility, assertiveness, group dynamics and conflict resolution. Health issues are also covered during connections including sex and alcohol and drug education.
