French I-V
French I students begin their work in Discovering French Bleu, a computer and text-based program using oral games and exercises to enhance the learning of French.Students are introduced to the basic workings of French syntax.They formulate their own verb notebooks and are encouraged to communicate in French as much as possible.
French II and III students continue with Discovering French Blanc. The program emphasizes oral skills, but also moves into reading stories in French. Their grammar work includes the past and future tenses, and the intricacies of the French language.Students start reading level appropriate books in French and are responsible for many oral presentations. French is used on a regular basis class.
French IV students concentrate on civilizations of the francophone world and French conversation. Personnages, a college level intermediate program, introduces students to the history, geography, literature, arts and current events of the many French-speaking communities in the world. Students write on a regular basis and are expected to use French as their primary language in class.
French V students may develop their own curriculum according to their level needs: some will spend more time on studying advanced grammar and perfecting writing skills, others on discussing French books or articles about French current events. Some prepare for the SAT II test or work on independent studies about French history and culture for example. All materials and discussions are in French.
