Spanish IV Poetry Assignment
Task:Write a poem (in Spanish, of course) about something you
believe. The process will start today and tomorrow when we read a poem
by a Costa Rican poet, dealing with his hatred of ownership, borders,
wars, violence, weapons, etc. After break, you will turn in a rough
draft; we'll listen to some songs that have a "greater" meaning
(political, social, etc - not just love songs); and eventually you will
hand in final drafts.
Goals:
1) Practice your writing skills in Spanish.
2) Become acquainted with some important
Latin American literature and artists.
3) Experience using
a relatively unfamiliar language to write poetry - a genre that many of you may not feel particularly attached to (or even fond of) in English!
Note:
Your own poems do NOT have to be "serious". You don't have
to talk about politics or the environment or other big social issues. You can write about your belief in the importance of snow days, or
how Vermont is a superior state, or the necessity of longer lunch
periods, etc.
